MATTHIAS LIPSEY

MPF RNR Athlete

I'm not sure it's as much that I love running itself, but rather the places my pounding heart and heaving chest have taken me. There's something special about the way delirious exhaustion brings people close together, and that may be my favorite part. I also believe John Muir hit it dead nuts when he said "I'd rather be in the mountains thinking about God then stuck in a church thinking about the mountains."

There's a lot you can learn about yourself and others when you're most primal, without filters and covered in mud. "Never stop exploring" means not only the great outdoors, but within yourself, within your friends, and within your community every single day. Make connections. Grow. Learn. Play. If you don't learn something new every day, it's because you're not paying attention.

Your life is an amazing journey, based not in what you've left carved in stone, but what's left woven into the lives of others. Some of the greatest, most selfless people I've ever known have had their stories abridged. I intend to squeeze that sucker for every penny. I intend to make sure that I finish everything I've come to say. Live voraciously and graciously. You don't have to live up to anyone's expectations but your own, so set them high. Make it a story worth retelling, because it is.
