South Kaibab Trail, Grand Canyon National Park

The end of 2023 brought us to the bottom of the Grand Canyon via the South Kaibab Trail. With a bit of adventure in our souls, we headed out an hour before sunrise to capture the magic of a full moon (cold moon) and the sunrise.

We took our time descending to let the beauty of the day capture our hearts. Sometimes the goal is to just be present, especially when endurance goals aren’t the drive for the day. We are planning the R3 ( Rim to Rim to Rim) this year, so it was great for us to get the lay of the land.

Having a certain level of fitness opens up a whole new world of exploration, it really allows you to experience what it is to be human on a whole other level. You don’t have to be an ultra athlete, but by putting in a little more work within your fitness regime, along with consistency, you can reap the endless rewards.

We have coached many athletes to performance goals on this course, but the athlete that stood out to us today was a man who was in his late 70’s, carrying a heavy pack on his way back up from camping at Phantom Ranch. I think he represented what our future in fitness should look like, keep moving and it's never too late to start. Don’t let age be an obstacle. Train for life and longevity.

One of the greatest gifts in life is your health & fitness! Happy New Year!
