Today (Sunday the 31st) was the 40th running of the Escarpment 18.6 Mile Trail Run. We had pouring rain and slick conditions, but with the hearty souls that toed the line and the volunteers the braved the conditions, the 40th running of the Escarpment Trail Race was an epic success!
This was Ben's 15th year running the Escarpment 18.6 Mile Trail Run which takes place in the rugged Catskills of New York. He thought he seen it all, but every year at Escarpment is somehow different, and this year was no exception, especially with the surprise at the top of Blackhead Mountain...
The 39th running of the mountain goats is in the books! Here are 124 photos from the day. We hope to see everyone at the 40th running next year!
I thought I might be done with winning Escarpment. I had lost the past two years, was approaching 40, and the competition certainly wasn’t getting any easier. For this year, I was in the UK the week before the race to attend a conference and I ran the Snowdon mountain race the weekend prior to Escarpment.
The 2014 Escarpment Trail Run was held on July 27th. This was my second running of the race, which has been happening since 1977. Held in the Catskills Mountains, it a grueling 18 mile trek up and over 3 peaks on trails littered with roots & rocks. I was excited to try to best last years time of 4 hours 20 minutes. My goal was 4 hours.
Video of the 2014 Escarpment 18.6 Mile Trail Run. This was the 38th running of the event! Joe had the chance to follow most of the race along the course and caught a little footage of just about each mile.
The 18.6 Mile Escarpment Trail Run has been taking place in the Catskills Mountains of New York for more than 30 years. It is a race that has been on my radar for a while but never fit into my schedule. This year the timing was just right!
A race within a race... Elizabeth, Sam and I were running a little behind schedule so we had our own little race to this section of the course. We parked at Big Hollow Road; the start of the Manitou's Revenge Ultra and ran up to about mid point of Blackhead Mountain.
Escarpment 30k Trail Running Race. On July 27th, 2008 I participated in a 30km (18.6) mile trail run in Windham, NY. I’ve was feeling a little sick prior to the race so I knew this was going to be more of a challenge for me. I haven’t raced in a while but I have been training consistently so I was eager to feel the energy of pushing myself a little harder than if I were on a training run.
