News & Photos from the 2017 Cat's Tail Trail Marathon
What a day it was! We had the 3rd running of the Cat's Tail Trail Marathon! This is a 26.2 mile route that takes you through the Catskill Mountains of New York. It boasts an elevation change of over 14,000+ feet and will take every bit of your athleticism to finish this race. Here are the photos that I captured from the day, as well as the photos my wife Elizabeth took with her iPhone 8+ while working the Wittenberg Aid Station at around mile 16.
Many members of our team, adventure club and clients had a great day out on the course whether racing or volunteering.

Congrats to all of the runners and thank you to the volunteers, who without, mountain races like this wouldn't be possible. This is a must do event that inspires and embraces the community aspect of trail running. It has been an honor to be a part of it in its 3rd year.
"When I downloaded my GPS data from Catstail this year, the first “top result” listed was 400 meters in 71 seconds, my second best 400 on Strava. That was how we started the race. I don’t wear my watch for everything, but Catstail is a technical trail marathon with 7k of climb that takes 4.5 hours. Yes, the first 400m is downhill on a road, but that still doesn’t really make 4:44 pace a good idea. To put this in perspective, my mile PR is 4:34. This was a new level of “Coming in hot.”

Just a quick story about a photo.
This is going to be more of an incident report than a race report, as David Kilgore’s injury was the story of the day, and the craziest thing I have seen in 20 years of trail racing.
Cat’s Tail Trail Marathon, a gnarly run through the beautiful Catskill mountains, and my last chance to have a fun race this year.
Just a few photos from one hell of an adventure in the Catskills of New York!
When my wife asked me what time I would be finishing the Cats Tail Trail Marathon, without even thinking I replied “Well it’s only a marathon, so it shouldn’t take too long.” She laughed...
