Governor Mountain & Cooper Union Trail in Ringwood State Park

Weekend mornings I look to get out before the crowds and the goal is usually to be out the door by 6am the latest. My original plan was to make my way to Jungle Habitat via some hidden trails and woods roads that I would connect along the way.

After some movement prep to get my body feeling good and ready for the demands of mountain biking on the rugged trails in our area, I started making my way towards Ringwood State Park.

About 20 minutes into my ride I realized I had forgotten a spare tube. Granted, I haven’t had a flat in quite some time but I didn’t want to chance it. If I got a flat, and couldn’t fix it, it would have been a long, long walk home.

I knew that one of my athletes was going to be out there riding from the top of Skyline Drive all the way down towards Shepherd Lake. I quickly got in touch with Evan and we decided to meet near Lot C in Ringwood State Park, NJ.

We would ride the Cooper Union Trail to the top of Governor Mountain, which overlooks the Wanaque Reservoir. The Cooper Union Trail is about 4.6 miles before you double back on it. It is always a bit of an adventure each year when we ride this trail.
