TRAIL Highlight: A Run to Pine Meadow Lake

Harriman State Park of New York offers over 250 miles of trails with endless routes to adventure on. This is our backyard and we want to begin sharing some trail and route highlights that you may want to explore for yourself.

A Run to Pine Meadow Lake

The southern part of HSP is easy to get to using NJ Transit or by car. It’s about a 40 minute drive from Central Park, NYC to Reeves Meadow Visitor Center. This is the 1st major parking area and trail head in the park. The parking lot is small but there is ample parking along the northbound side of the road. Just make sure your car is on the other side of the white line and not sticking out in the road. Weekends can get very busy in the summer and fall months. During the week you will pretty much have the area to yourself.

There are many trail options and routes to take to get to Pine Meadow Lake. One of our favorites is a direct route using the Pine Meadow Trail (red), following Stony Brook. We will then head back up to the Pine Meadow Trail where the bridge is out using a newer trail that climbs back up to the red trail. From here we take the trail all the way to Pine Meadow Lake. It is about 2.4 miles to get to the lake using this route and another 2.4 miles back.

Here is a short video of a run we just did last week. I was wearing my Gore-tex Salomon Sense Rides with Kahtoola NANOspikes and Elizabeth was wearing her Salomon X Ultra Mid 2 Spikes GTX.
