This is a 10 week intermediate level training plan that is designed for runners who have experience at the 50k or 50 mile distance and are looking to perform well at the 50 mile distance. Mileage per week will be 50-70. This plan can be adapted to a variety of runnable 50 mile races (rolling terrain, very runnable climbs, 2 out of 5 technical rating, low altitude, etc.). The overall goal is to increase general fitness, endurance and strength out on the trails within 10 weeks. The scheduled long runs and hiking will increase your trail endurance & strength, as the intervals will increase trail speed & efficiency. This plan can be adapted by runners who run more than once a day, but the workouts should always be completed in single sessions. Most of the mileage should be on trails, and preferably on terrain similar to the goal race.
