I headed out for my ride yesterday (Monday) knowing that I was going to be pretty disappointed. This past weekend was a very busy time for Harriman State Park and for all State & National Parks. I had to approach several people asking them to discard and recycle their garbage properly. This video shows just a 100 yard section of the park.
If you approach anyone that you see littering, be patient and explain to them the other options that they have. Don't get into an argument and if they begin acting very ignorant and aggressive, just simply pick up their trash and discard it properly without saying a word.
We need to continue to educate people about the Carry in Carry Out policy and the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics and do so in a polite manner, otherwise people will get defensive and eventually cause even more damage.
