The Adirondacks State Park

The Adirondacks State Park is the largest state park in the contiguous United States. The park covers over 6 million acres and is larger then the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone and Yosemite combined.  The park supports 500,000 acres of true old growth forest in which 200,000 acres have never been logged.  It is home to 3000 ponds & lakes, 2000+ miles of hiking trails, roughly 100 campgrounds, 1500 miles of rivers, and holds some 2000 peaks in which 100 are taller then 3000 feet.  It is home to Mount Marcy (5344 feet) and Mount Algonquin which are the tallest mountains in the park.  They are located in the High Peaks Region and is a place that we like to explore often.  The High Peaks region is the territory of the "46ers" (a loosely organized club that have climbed the 46 highest peaks in the ADK). We will explore much of the ADK during many of our cycling, trail running, hiking, backcountry camping and adventure training camps.

The Catskill Mountains & Forest Preserve

You will find 50 mountain peaks reaching between 3,400 & 4,180 feet high and the highest of them all in the park is Slide Mountain. The great thing about the Catskills is that its deepest reaches are within a few hour drive from NYC and if we head out early enough, we will be able to go for an extended hike and be back all in the same day. A few times a year will will also use this region for extended backcountry trips and winter adventures.
