When you see a master trail runner like Scott Jurek in motion, it can be hard to think you both do the same sport. He floats; you trample. He clears obstacles; you get tangled up in them. He flies down hills; you inch down them, and still stub your toe. Any trail runner can increase their endurance by simply spending more time out there, but how do you improve your finesse? In order to develop balance, agility, and trail-specific strength—three vital components that make the difference between flailing and floating—we talked to running coach Joe Azze from Mountain Peak Fitness. EXERCISE HIGHLIGHT - KETTLEBELL SWING

The kettlebell swing is a movement that all athletes should include in their training and for anyone looking to gain fitness and an increase in functional strength. Training with kettlebells (KB) focuses on muscle integration and not isolation. You are training and conditioning the body as a whole. The weight of a kettlebell is 6-8 inches away from the center of your grip, making the weight more alive and places a higher demand on core stabilization, the stretch-shortening cycle, rate of force production, proprioception etc. Read more.

6/19/2010 - Joe places 2nd place overall in the Mt. Beacon Biathlon despite heading down the wrong trail on the running section of the course because of stolen course signs.

BURNING RIVER 100 race recap!

7/31/10  - The Burning River 100 Mile Endurance Run, which was the USA Track & Field 100 Mile Trail National Championship race, was another epic weekend for Elizabeth. 

Elizabeth had a great race and enjoyed the journey along the banks of Ohio’s Cuyahoga River and through Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
